Carol Blaschka, Administrative Assistant
Carol Blaschka grew up in Camas, Washington, graduating from Washington State University in 1981. She taught elementary school for 26 years; three of those years at Emmanuel Lutheran on Maui and two years in California. She and her husband Damian moved to Las Cruces to escape the traffic and weather of Seattle, WA in July of 2007. Carol retired from teaching and worked as the Parish Administrator at Peace Lutheran for 10 years. She semi-retired, and joined the Border Servant Corps Staff in January 2018.
Carol is blessed with two wonderful stepchildren, Nate and Brie, their spouses, Melissa and Ryan, and the best grandchildren ever, Luke and Stella. She enjoys many activities in her spare time including walking, needlework, scrapbooking, playing games, and stamping.
Sophia Sepp, Program Coordinator
Sophia Sepp joined the Border Servant Corps staff as the program coordinator in September 2015. Sophia served as a BSC volunteer at Jardin de los Niños from 2014-2015. Sophia plans to pursue a career in social work & public health, concentrating on the intersection between social justice and immigration, and sees the Program Coordinator position as a wonderful opportunity for beginning this journey. Throughout her time with Border Servant Corps she has witnessed how the program, its participants, and its coordinators navigate and explore the incredibly unique dynamics that characterize the social justice landscape across the border region. She loves accompanying and supporting volunteers throughout their year of service.
Kari Lenander, Executive Director
Kari Lenander grew up in the Midwest and attended college at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD where she received a degree in Business / Communications. During her BSC years, 2008-2010, she served as the Border Immersion and After School program coordinator at Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey in El Paso, TX. Kari returned to the border in 2011 to become the program coordinator for Border Servant Corps, working with those who strive for peace and justice on the borderland. In 2013, she was named executive director and enjoys supporting the mission and ministry of Border Servant Corps.
