Buffalo, New York ■ Canisius College

Hello to all! My name is Monica Wrobel. I am from Buffalo, New York, right on the border with Canada. Recently, I graduated from Canisius College with majors in International Relations, Spanish, Political Science, and Latin American Studies. My Jesuit education inspires me to become a woman for and with others, learning from and entering into relationship with those on the margins of society.
I have chosen Border Servant Corps because of its commitment to understanding and combating structural injustices that persist along the U.S.-Mexico border. After service-immersion trips in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico, I have been particularly moved by the realities that face undocumented immigrants and their stories of struggle against institutionalized discrimination in American policy.
I seek BSC’s call to humility in the accompaniment of the border region, the challenge of examining how my privilege impacts communities around me, and the steps I can take to live out the tenets daily. Cheers to the tremendous opportunities for growth that await in El Paso!
